Orxa Energies, a Bengaluru-based EV startup, has unveiled its debut electric bike, the Mantis, geared towards the electric performance bikes segment. Positioned as a competitor to the premium Ultraviolette F77 electric bike, the Orxa Mantis boasts several distinctive features, including India's pioneering liquid-cooled electric motor.
Price and Availability
Priced at ₹3.6 lakh ex-showroom, the Orxa Mantis falls just below the Ultraviolette F77 base variant, which retails at ₹3.8 lakh ex-showroom. Scheduled for release in Bengaluru from April 2024, followed by availability in other cities, the bike is already open for bookings on the company's website.
Design and Color Options
Sporting a sleek and sporty design akin to the Ultraviolette F77, the Mantis offers buyers two color choices – Urban Black and Jungle Grey.
Power and Performance
The Mantis houses a mid-mounted liquid-cooled BLDC motor generating 28 hp of power and 93 Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the F77 delivers 36.2 hp of power and 85 Nm of peak torque. While the Mantis achieves a top speed of 135 km per hour and accelerates from 0 to 100 km per hour in 8.9 seconds, the F77 outpaces it slightly with a top speed of 140 km per hour and acceleration from 0 to 100 km per hour in 8.3 seconds.
Battery and Range
Crucial in any electric bike, the Mantis packs an 8.9 kWh battery enabling a claimed range of 221 km on a single charge. Conversely, the F77, with its 7.1 kWh battery, claims a range of 206 km on a single charge. Charging the Mantis from 0 to 80% takes 5 hours using the standard 1.3 kW charger included with the bike. Additionally, there's an option to purchase a 3.3 kW charger, cutting the charging time to 2.5 hours. While the price of the 3.3 kW charger remains undisclosed, estimates place it in the range of ₹15,000 to ₹20,000.
Tech Features
The Orxa Mantis is equipped with a 5-inch TFT display running the company's proprietary Linux-based operating system, adding a tech-savvy touch to the riding experience.
With its competitive pricing, innovative features, and performance capabilities, the Orxa Mantis looks set to make its mark in the burgeoning Indian electric bike market.
