In 2001 when Activa was first launched, the scooter segment in India was not considered as a viable segment. Honda Activa had re imaged the scooter segment and attracted more riders. By 2015 Activa had surpassed the sales of Hero Honda Splendor and become the best selling two wheeler in the country.
As the demand for electric vehicles is increasing in India, the EV segment had seen the proliferation of many electric vehicles brand. Although Honda has already introduced its electric models and has made many plans for the future, it's mostly awaited EV Honda Activa electric will be out probably by the end of this year.
Honda has collaborated with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to establish a network of swappable battery recharge stations across HP petrol pumps in India. Battery swapping options will help to keep an affordable initial purchase cost and the company is planning to localize components for its electric two wheelers so that it will be more affordable.
The Honda Activa Electric is expected to be introduced at a starting price of Rs 70000–Rs 80000 range. The EV could reach a range of up to 120–160 km. The more details of the vehicle is yet to be announced.
