Bajaj Auto takes the Chetak to new heights with increased range and premium features.

The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has been a prominent player in the Indian market, known for its premium features. However, it had a disadvantage of offering a lower range than its competitors. To address this issue, Bajaj Auto has made a move to expand the range of the Chetak.

The Chetak EV was first introduced in India in 2019, and initially, it was only available in a few cities. However, by 2022, Bajaj had sold about 30,000 units of the Chetak in India and is aiming to double this number by 2023. The new move to expand the range is expected to add an additional 18 kilometres, bringing the Chetak EV's range up to 108 kilometres.

Bajaj Auto has achieved this increased range without any mechanical modifications. Instead, they have made minor changes to the software and controller algorithms. The battery capacity remains the same, but the new modifications are expected to improve the efficiency of the Chetak's electric motor.

The Bajaj Chetak comes in two variants: Urban and Premium. However, with the release of the new version, only the premium variant will be available for purchase. The new model features a 50.4 V 57.24 Ah battery, which powers a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 3.8kW electric motor with 16 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. The Chetak has two riding modes: Eco and Sport.

Despite the increased range, the new Bajaj Chetak retains its size and other premium features. It comes with a metallic body, IP67-rated battery, 12-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tires, soft-touch switchgear with backlighting, 18-litre boot space, 4-litre glove box, and LED lighting. The Chetak also features Bluetooth connectivity, app-based control, GPS navigation, and keyless ignition.

The new Bajaj Chetak is priced ex-showroom at Rs 1,54,189, and it is yet to be confirmed whether the new model will be priced higher. The EV comes in four different colour options, and the battery pack is covered by a three-year or 50,000-kilometer warranty.

In conclusion, Bajaj Auto has made a significant move to address the Chetak's range disadvantage. The modifications made to the software and controller algorithms have resulted in an additional 18 kilometres, making the Chetak EV a more attractive option for customers looking for a premium electric scooter in India.
